1. Purpose (in more detail)

Purpose is of most concern when you are writing non-fiction, but is something you should bear in mind when planning your fiction works. Purpose is the reason why you write - it is what you want to achieve from your text. In English, we narrow down the reasons for writing into triplets (three things). Each purpose within a triplet is very similar and it can be said that you can borrow advice from one to help improve another. For instance, if you are writing to explain, you can't do it without describing. Look at the following posters for guidance on what should
 be achieved within each triplet.

When writing fiction, you will most certainly be writing to imagine, explore, entertain. You may have to decide if you are writing to fulfil a genre. An explanatory poster is up in Revising fiction for major genres and some of the main features you should include. When writing fiction, you should keep the imagine, explore, entertain poster and the genre diagram at close hand to help you stick to the right conventions.

2. PEES

When you write an analytical piece, you should follow the writing structure PEES; Point, Evidence, Evaluation, Speculation.
